The rapper, 39, tweeted the photo on Wednesday of his personal message from the president-elect, which read, “To Kanye, You are a great friend. Thanks, Donald Trump.” The business mogul, 70, even underlined “great” in silver marker.
As previously reported, West dropped by NYC’s Trump Tower for a brief sit-down with Trump. The pair posed for photos together in the lobby, where the soon-to-be commander-in-chief told reporters that they talked about “life” and that they’ve “been friends for a long time.”
Later, the Yeezy fashion designer —who was recently hospitalized for nine days for extreme exhaustion following a breakdown — took to Twitter on Tuesday to reveal the reason behind their conversation. “I wanted to meet with Trump today to discuss multicultural issues,” he wrote, adding in a follow-up tweet: “These issues included bullying, supporting teachers, modernizing curriculums, and violence in Chicago.”
“I feel it is important to have a direct line of communication with our future President if we truly want change,” he continued. He then tweeted “#2024,” seemingly implying that he wants to run for office after Trump’s potential two terms are complete. The “Famous” rapper previously suggested he would run in 2020.
A source told Us Weekly that West is not being considered for any role in Trump’s administration. “Kanye respects the idea that Trump was able to speak to a group of people in the country that had been largely forgotten by the media,” another insider told Us. “He looks at Trump as a celebrity who is able to influence the greatest office in the world, not as a politician.”
As for how the musician’s world-famous wife, Kim Kardashian, felt about the meeting, a third source told Us that she “respects her husband,” even though she supported Trump’s Democratic rival, Hillary Clinton. “She’s not surprised by this,” the source said. “Kim knew that Kanye supported Trump before this. Kim and Kanye definitely differ on their opinions — obviously, she voted for Hillary.”
