Katie Holmes is a very good actress. After all, the 33-year-old showed no signs of sadness as she and Suri, 6, shopped for home good at a Whole Foods in Manhattan on June 27 — just one day before Holmes filed for divorce from Tom Cruise, her husband of six years.
The mother-daughter duo stocked up on flowers, laundry detergent, cleaning supplies, olive oil and other items that afternoon. Their cart was “literally overflowing,” an onlooker tells Lainey Gossip. The shopping spree makes sense, given that the Jack and Jill actress had recently rented her own New York City apartment — separate from the home she shares with Cruise, 49, when they’re in town together.
Holmes — who wore a short-sleeved denim button-down top and floral shorts — “was nice to everyone” in the store, the onlooker adds, “but not effusive.”
Once they reached the checkout line, Holmes hugged Suri. “You know you are an amazing little girl, right?” she told her daughter, according to the onlooker. “I love you more than anything.”
Suri’s well-being has always been Holmes’ priority. “Katie’s primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter’s best interest,” her lawyer, Jonathan Wolfe, told Us Weekly in a statement June 28. In a bold move, Holmes is seeking sole custody.
Cruise, meanwhile, has been keeping a low-profile while shooting Oblivion in Iceland. “Tom just wants to work hard and finish everything on time,” a source tells Us.
