Kim Zolciak and her daughter Brielle Biermann avoided reporters’ questions while leaving 15-year-old son Kroy “KJ” Biermann Jr.’s sexual battery hearing.
Footage obtained by TMZ showed Zolciak, 48, and Brielle, 29, in matching black dresses and sunglasses as they were approached by the media outside Fulton County Superior Court in Atlanta on Friday, September 11. The two were silent as they were peppered with questions, including Zolciak being asked whether she thought KJ “is innocent.”
Zolciak offered no response when asked by a reporter whether she would “be able to keep [KJ] out of trouble even though he was charged with sexual battery.”
A bond hearing was held at the courthouse following KJ’s arrest on aggravated sexual assault and aggravated sodomy charges in August over an alleged incident with an unidentified minor female at a local gym. He was subsequently indicted on charges of aggravated child molestation, aggravated sexual battery, aggravated sodomy, false imprisonment and three counts of sexual battery against a child under the age of 16.
During her brief encounter with the media on Friday, the Real Housewives of Atlanta alum also kept quiet about bombshell accusations that arose during the bond hearing. Deputy District Attorney Caitlin McGillicuddy alleged that investigators discovered footage on KJ’s phone that showed him and an unidentified family member under the age of 12 engaging in sexual activity. (Per prosecutors, they allegedly also found evidence of “multiple encounters” where KJ used “predatory [and] derogatory” language toward the victim.)
KJ has not publicly addressed the accusations. Us has reached out to his lawyer for comment.
Kim previously denied the original accusations of sexual battery and sodomy on her son’s behalf following his arrest in August. The charges arose from an alleged April incident where a minor female classmate accused KJ of sexually harassing and assaulting her while they were in the coed sauna at a local gym.
“The allegations being made against my son are nothing short of reckless and deeply troubling. He categorically denies ever being involved with this woman or engaging in the conduct she has alleged,” Zolciak told Us in a statement on August 21. “My son voluntarily took a polygraph examination regarding these allegations and passed. Additionally, an examination was conducted, and no DNA belonging to my son was found.”
The reality star — who shares KJ with estranged husband Kroy Biermann Sr. — called the minor’s accusations against her son “false,” warning that they could have “devastating consequences not only for the person being accused but also for genuine survivors of sexual assault and abuse.”
“Every legitimate allegation deserves to be taken seriously and investigated based on the facts and evidence. At the same time, no one should be publicly condemned based solely on an accusation,” Zolciak continued. “We remain confident that the facts and evidence will establish the truth, and we ask that people allow the proper process to take its course rather than spreading unproven allegations.”
KJ’s lawyer Jason Sheffield subsequently told Us that the teenager is “100 percent innocent.” On Tuesday, September 8, the attorney filed a motion to move the case to juvenile court, which would prevent KJ from being tried as an adult.
“It is difficult to comprehend that a 14- or 15-year-old child can be held in detention for a month or longer simply waiting for a bond hearing,” Sheffield told Page Six on Tuesday. “But that detention is a direct consequence of the detective’s decision to arrest him on charges of this magnitude.”
KJ is currently being held at Atlanta’s Regional Youth Detention Center, a juvenile facility, pending a decision about his bond request. His arraignment will be held in October.
