It will be a white wedding for La Toya Jackson! The performer and sister to the late Michael Jackson announced on Wednesday, June 4, that she is engaged to her longtime business partner Jeffre Phillips.
Jackson, 58, broke the news on Good Morning America, where she showed off her massive 17.5 carat diamond engagement ring. Phillips confirmed the news of the betrothal and gave a statement to Us Weekly reading, “Yes, it is true, we are engaged and very happy to begin our lives together. The outpour of support is amazing, thank you!”
The singer appeared on the morning show to promote her reality show Life With La Toya, which is airing on the Oprah Winfrey Network. She then spoke of the engagement, telling GMA‘s Abbie Boudreau that no wedding date is set.
While she still has to iron out details for her big day, Jackson is thinking about motherhood. “I’ve always wanted to be a mother, all my life,” she said, adding that she’s considered adoption.
Jackson’s upcoming docuseries includes footage of Phillips asking Jackson’s father, Joe Jackson, for her hand in marriage. It will be the second marriage for Jackson, who was previously wed to former manager Jack Gordon for seven years in the ’90s, but has since detailed the abusive nature of their relationship.
