It’s not totally over yet. After news spread that Lady Gaga and fiancé Taylor Kinney had split, the Grammy-winning artist clarified late Tuesday, July 19, that she and the actor haven’t ended things for good.
“Taylor and I have always believed we are soulmates. Just like all couples we have ups and downs, and we have been taking a break,” Gaga, 30, captioned a black-and-white photo of her and the Chicago Fire star walking with their arms around each other. “We are both ambitious artists, hoping to work through long-distance and complicated schedules to continue the simple love we have always shared.”
“Please root us on,” she continued. “We’re just like everybody else and we really love each other.”
Taylor and I have always believed we are soulmates. Just like all couples we have ups and downs, and we have been taking a break. We are both ambitious artists, hoping to work through long-distance and complicated schedules to continue the simple love we have always shared. Please root us on. We're just like everybody else and we really love each other.
A source close to the American Horror Story: Hotel actress echoed her sentiments. “She started really writing and working on her album and he went back to work in Chicago,” the insider tells Us Weekly. “They kept going weeks without seeing each other.”
The source added that the two are “super bummed out” about taking a break from their relationship, but noted, “they absolutely could get back together.”
“It’s really sad and [Gaga’s] really torn up,” one insider told Us earlier. “They thought they’d be together forever. Distance was a big part of it.”
Us Weekly confirmed Tuesday that Gaga and Kinney, 35, separated earlier this month after five years together. The couple first met on the set of her 2011 music video “You and I,” and kicked off a romance several months later. They broke up briefly in 2012, but reunited a month later.
The Zero Dark Thirty actor proposed on Valentine’s Day last year, and Gaga excitedly announced her engagement on Instagram by sharing a close-up photo of her heart-shaped diamond ring. “He gave me his heart on Valentine’s Day, and I said YES!” she captioned the image.
The two haven’t been shy about their strong affections for each other.
“At the end of the day, he’s my best friend,” Gaga told Ellen DeGeneres in November 2013. “And having your lover be your best friend, I mean, it’s the best thing ever.”
Kinney was equally effusive when talking to Entertainment Tonight about his then-fiancée in January: “I loved her from the moment I met her.”
