The news couldn't come at a more crucial time for Odom. Things have been getting progressively worse for the athlete in recent weeks; his serious battle with substance abuse is just one of his problems.

As Us Weekly previously reported, Odom's nearly four-year union with Kardashian has been suffering under the weight of his drug use. "The addiction had taken over their marriage," a pal told Us. "The problem is cocaine. He would be high for three or four days at a time."

Last week, things took another turn for the worse when Odom was arrested in the early hours of Friday, Aug. 30, for driving under the influence. According to an incident report from the California Highway Patrol, he showed "objective signs of intoxication and was unable to perform field sobriety tests as explained and demonstrated." He also refused to take a chemical test, resulting in the suspension of his license for one full year.

"We gave him plenty of opportunities to recant and submit [to the test], but he refused," Public Information Officer Leland Tang told Us.

Kardashian, for her part, has been relatively quiet about the problems with her husband, tweeting just a few cryptic messages in recent days. On Sunday, Sept. 1, she wrote: "As much as I wish I were made of steel…I'm not. I'm pretty damn close to it though."
