Looks like the showmance rumors were true after all — kind of. Years after denying a love connection with her Glee costar Matthew Morrison, Lea Michele is finally fessing up. In her new book, Brunette Ambition, the 27-year-old actress/singer admits she and Morrison, 35, actually did date—albeit briefly and before Glee.
The revelation comes late in the book, during a section about her getting the role of Rachel Berry on Fox's hit show about high school glee clubbers. (The Ryan Murphy-created musical dramedy is now in its fifth season.)
"When we shot the pilot, I met Cory Monteith, Kevin McHale, Amber Riley, and Chris Colfer for the first time," Michele writes. "I had worked on Broadway with Jenna Ushkowitz and Matthew Morrison before. Matt had been a friend of mine for years, and in fact we'd actually dated back in the day for a Broadway beat."
This is the first time Michele has admitted to having any romantic involvement with Morrison. The two dealt with rumors in the earlier days of Glee—before the actress started dating the late Monteith—but both insisted they were just friends.
Asked about the rumors by Parade back in 2010, Morrison said, "We were literally on set and I got a call from my publicist [about Lea], and [Lea] got a call a minute later and we looked at each other like, 'What the f–k?' It's so laughable."
Michele was similarly dismissive of the reports—at the time, at least. "I've known Matt for years," she told Hollywood.com. "He's been a friend of mine from New York. People are going to make things up. I think it's just because we really are so close."
