It was an emotional weekend for Lea Michele. The star wrapped Glee along with the rest of the cast, and after bidding adieu to the show after six seasons, Michele made sure to take home a very special memento — the football jersey that belonged to Finn Hudson, the character played by her late boyfriend Cory Monteith.
“I can’t believe tomorrow is our last day at glee. It is going to be such an emotional day. But I’m so grateful though to have had…this incredibly amazing experience,” Michele shared on Twitter on Feb. 20 before the final day of taping. “Thank you so much to all of our amazing Gleeks who supported us so much! I love you guys. We were so lucky to have had the most amazing crew who worked so hard everyday to make the show amazing. I’m so grateful for them…So thank you all again so much from the bottom of my heart. I will miss Rachel Berry so very much.”
After posting a series of other tweets recalling the last six years on the show and celebrating their final day, Michele tweeted, “One last thing,” along with a heart emoji and a picture of herself walking away with Monteith’s framed jersey.
The star’s late boyfriend died at the age of 31 in July 2013 after overdosing.
Following his tragic death, Michele took time to herself before meeting now-boyfriend Matthew Paetz on the set of her music video “On My Way” this past April. The two have since moved in together and are getting serious, multiple sources have confirmed to Us.
After ringing in the New Year together in Mexico, Michele gushed alongside a collage of snaps: “Looking back on 2014 and I couldn’t be more grateful. So many amazing experiences and adventures…I feel truly blessed and thankful to be surrounded each day by the most incredible friends and family who have been with me through thick and thin.”
Glee’s two-hour series finale airs on March 20.
