Stranger things have happened in Roswell! A man named Aaron Burrell was arrested in Roswell, New Mexico last month after he butt-dialed 911 by accident, ABC News reported on Monday, Oct. 27. Why the harsh punishment? The phone call took place right after Burrell and his friend, Yvonne Thyberg, had burglarized a local residence. They spoke candidly of the incident as police listened in on the other end for nearly 45 minutes.
"We basically robbed them, dude," one of the two suspects said in an audio clip released by ABC. Adding to the hilarious (SMH!) irony, Bon Jovi's 1986 hit "Wanted Dead or Alive" could also be heard in the background.
One of the suspects added: "I know we should have gotten a lot more, but you know what, my only thing is that we got away safe, clean."
Guess again. One officer drove to the address the suspects mentioned and confirmed that the home had been broken into. Authorities then tracked down Burrell, 37, and Thyberg, 35, by tracing Burrell's phone. Burrell denied any wrongdoing, claiming that his phone was "picking up a conversation among people in an adjacent vehicle who were speaking very loudly."
Burrell and Thyberg were arrested and held on $10,000 and $5,000 bond, respectively. They are due back in court Wednesday.
