Meghan Trainor is opening up about the difficult time she experienced during her last tour.

“Life goes up and down like this,” Trainor, 32, said during the Thursday, April 23, episode of the “Sorry We’re Cyrus” podcast. “And during this writing process, in the middle of my last tour, my life, like, took a weird deep dive internally that I can’t really talk about. But you know, when they say like … you never know what someone’s going through.”

Though Trainor said she couldn’t discuss what she’s been experiencing, she added that she’s “going through it” right now.

“And it’s been a big part of this album,” she said of her latest project, Toy With Me, which was released on Friday, April 24. “And it’s tough that I, like, don’t want to discuss it because I don’t want to blow up somebody’s life over it that’s in my family, you know?”

The “All About That Bass” singer said many of the songs on the album are about a “huge breakup that [she] witnessed,” including her single “Get In Girl.”

“[They] went through a big breakup and they’re my best friend. And so, I wrote a lot of these songs for them. And I always need a self-love confidence anthem for myself,” she continued.

Trainor added that her single “Shimmer” is also about “self-love” and is dedicated to that person.

“And it’s also for myself because every day I’m really bad with my self-talk,” she explained. “I’m starting from scratch, like, every day. So I’m trying to boost myself up there too with this music. … I needed this album. So I hope it helps people out there who need it.”

Trainor’s comments come one week after she canceled her Get In Girl Tour, which was slated to kick off in June.

“After a lot of reflection and some really tough conversations, I’ve made the difficult decision to cancel the Get In Girl Tour,” she wrote via her Instagram Story on April 16. “Balancing the release of a new album, preparing for a nationwide tour, and welcoming our new baby girl to our growing family of five has just been more than I can take on right now, and I need to be home and present for each and all of them at this time.”

Trainor and her husband, Daryl Sabara, welcomed daughter Mikey Moon via surrogate in January. The couple also share sons Riley, 5, and Barry, 2.

“I know this will come as a disappointment to my fans, and I am so sorry to let you down,” she continued in her statement. “But I know this is the right decision for my family and me right now. I promise I’ll be back soon, and I can’t wait for you to hear this new record. I’m so proud of it, and I’m endlessly grateful for your love and support always.”
