Mischa Barton Reveals Why She Decided to Join ‘Dancing With the Stars’

From The O.C. to the ballroom! When Us Weekly caught up with Mischa Barton at Good Morning America’s Dancing With the Stars season 22 cast reveal on Tuesday, March 8, the actress opened up about why she decided to join the show.

“I just wanted to try something new,” she told Us. “And push myself!”

Barton, who will be competing for the coveted mirrorball trophy with partner Artem Chigvintsev, is going up against the likes of The Real Housewives of Atlanta’s Kim Fields and Fuller House’s Jodie Sweetin on the dance floor.

While she’s thrilled for her latest gig on the ABC reality competition show, Barton has far less enthusiasm for her past role as Marissa Cooper on The O.C. When asked by Metro in August 2014 whether she would do the iconic Fox drama again if given the chance, she admitted, “Probably not.”

“It’s something I came so close to not doing,” Barton continued of the part that made her famous. “I had a really great thing with film. People say be grateful for what you have but it [is] certainly not the kind of thing I was expecting it to be. … I’ve kind of seen it all.”

Aside from playing Cooper from 2003 until the character’s death in the 2006 season 3 finale, Barton is best known for her work as a child star in films including Notting Hill and The Sixth Sense. More recently, the DWTS competitor has appeared in a string of indie movies.
