Influencer Nara Smith shaved her 2-year-old daughter Whimsy’s hair amid the child’s cancer battle.
“Little warrior girl🎀,” Nara, 24, who also shares daughter Rumble Honey, 5, son Slim Easy, 4, and 9-month-old daughter Fawnie Golden, with husband Lucky Blue Smith, wrote via Instagram on Friday, July 3.
She continued: “Sharing something this vulnerable wasn’t an easy decision but seeing every message, prayer, story of a similar experience and kindness has made it a little easier. To every family or parent walking through something heavy right now, we’re thinking of you too🤍.”
The social media upload included moments that the family spent with Whimsy in her hospital room.
Nara originally revealed on Tuesday, June 30, that Whimsy was diagnosed with cancer and had to start chemo treatments.
“There’s no easy way to say this but late last year our daughter Whimsy got diagnosed with cancer,” the content creator wrote. “When we saw something suspicious on her, we took her to the ER and they didn’t quite know what to make of it.”
Nara explained how the family found out about their daughter’s health battle.
“When we took her into our pediatrician, I just remember him going really quiet and calm … My heart dropped in that moment,” she added. “I don’t know whether it was my gut telling me something or just a mom’s intuition, but the first thing that I felt was she has cancer.”
A trip to the children’s hospital confirmed Nara’s concerns.
“After a lot of X-rays, ultrasounds and finally a biopsy, they immediately called us and said that she had cancer,” she recalled. “[They] told us it had spread and that she needs to come and start chemo treatments immediately.”
In the post, Nara addressed how the family had been navigating the situation.
“A lot of you have probably realized that I’ve been posting a little less and this is the reason why,” she added. “Having found all of this out and navigating this while postpartum, also loving and caring for our other kids at home, also being in the hospital with Whimsy a lot and balancing work on top of that has been really challenging.”
She concluded: “Some days are a little easier, some days are really hard.” Nara continued, “All I can do is try my best and show up in all those areas in the best way that I can.”
