Nathan Sykes to Undergo Throat Surgery: Taking “Unforeseen Hiatus” From The Wanted

Nathan Sykes of The Wanted will undergo throat surgery on his 20th birthday, April 18.

Nathan Sykes will be spending his birthday in surgery. The Wanted singer announced Wednesday, April 17 that he'll be undergoing throat surgery in L.A. Thursday, which happens to be his 20th birthday.

"We can confirm that The Wanted's Nathan Sykes will under go specialist throat surgery on Thursday, April 18 in Los Angeles and, as such, will be taking unforeseen hiatus from The Wanted," his management team said a statement (via Just Jared). "The priority for Nathan, his label and management is that he is given time to recover and receive the best treatment possible. The remaining four members of The Wanted will continue fulfilling the band's promotional commitments across the world."

Sykes' band members — Max George, Siva Kaneswaran, Jay McGuiness and Tom Parker — also shared their well wishes in a Facebook post.

"Our lil Nath has to go in for an op on his throat on his birthday to make him better so join us in wishing him well," the British-Irish boy band wrote. "We love ya! Get well, Nath. We will be passing on all your words of support and love, it means the world to him and you definitely help us all through this."

And it looks like Sykes could use some extra love and support from his fans. "Gutted," the singer tweeted Tuesday, later adding, "Can't sleep. So much on my mind."
