New York Fashion Week Filled With Star-Studded Ups and Downs

New York Fashion Week is always a roller coaster. The highs are high, the lows are low, the anticipation gives everyone the jitters, and the descent can make 'em scream.

And we didn’t just experience this wild ride ourselves – we saw the celebs in the midst of it as well. And the designers. And the couture itself.

So, as the Fall 2013 season has drawn to a close (or should we say clothes?), we figured we’d offer you the best of the ups and the downs that made the past week unforgettable.

Down: Heidi Klum. Walking in major heels is one thing – walking in major heels on plastic after trekking through the winter weather is quite another, as the “Project Runway” host learned the hard way when she took a slight tumble after her show’s finale taping while preparing to pose for a photo. Wonder if we’ll get to see it happen on TV.

Up: Reality stars on the runway. From Kris, Kylie, and Kendall Jenner strutting their stuff on the catwalk for the Heart Truth Red Dress Collection at the beginning of the week to Deena Cortese and a gazillion “Real Housewives” and the like sashaying for the Reality on the Runway fundraiser, people famous for trying to be themselves with cameras following them around were everywhere.

Down: Snow and rain. Lots of it.

Up: The number of times we saw Vanessa Hudgens in a single week. She showed up at least seven events, including sitting front row at Jenny Packham, Naeem Khan, and Diane von Furstenberg. Still, she wasn’t our big winner for the most omnipresent person in the tents at Lincoln Center. We saw “Django Unchained” actress Nichole Galicia at least eight times!

Down: The CW’s attendance. Perhaps it’s as simple as “Gossip Girl” having reached its conclusion, but we generally expect just about every front row to have at least one gorgeous star from the teen-centric network. This was not the case this season. “The Carrie Diaries” main star Anna Sophia Robb only attended one event – Alice and Olivia’s presentation – and that was about it for their leads. We spotted fellow “Carrie Diaries” actress Chloe Bridges out and about a few times, but that was about it.

Up: The models at Nautica Mens. Everyone was talking about them as they left the show… and most of the women confessed they barely noticed the clothes because the male mannequins were so impressively good looking. In fact, one woman said something about her pants that we probably shouldn’t repeat but admit we’ve never heard at Fashion Week before.

Up: Chloe Moretz’s age. The “Kick-Ass” sweetie turned 16 and celebrated in style with fabulous friends from Julianne Moore to “Modern Family” star Sarah Hyland.

Up: Naeem Khan. This designer – known for his intricate embroidery and glamorous beadwork – has been a rising star of the fashion world for the past few years, but now he has some major friends in high places. Matt Damon, for one, considers him a personal friend and claims, “Nobody’s better at making my wife look beautiful.” After getting a look at the collection, we imagine that will be true for many celebrities over the next year… and possibly come Oscar night.

Down: Remember all the low, low open backs that have been showing on dresses over the last few years? Well, they’re about to get even lower. Quite a few designers, including Reem Acra and KaufmanFranco are offering peekaboo panels of sheer fabric teasing just a little booty. It’s more tasteful than it sounds, but something tells us the folks at the Grammys wouldn’t be too pleased about it.

Down: The height of the folks in the front row. We’d bet that the average height of the celebrities with prime seats was down this season compared to many others, and we have mostly Olympic figure skaters and gymnasts to blame. Adorable and talented mini-fashionistas included Tara Lipinski, Nastia Liukin, Gabby Douglas, Aly Raisman, and Sasha Cohen.

Up: KaufmanFranco. Watch out for this design team! They’re the men behind the white dress Taylor Swift wore right after breaking up with Harry Styles and the dress Jennifer Lopez told “omg! Insider” might be her favorite ever. Their new collection – the first ever to show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week – is sexy to the 10th degree and something to look forward to seeing on many a red carpet down the road (yes, including that one that’s about a week away).

Down: Backstage drama. In previous years, we’ve witnessed a ton of it, from diva fits to panic attacks over missing models. We didn’t see any of that this year. Bummer.

Up: Selfies. It seemed every celebrity hitting the tents was taking and posting their own photos and sharing their experiences with the masses. See for yourself in our special edition of our Celeb Social Snaps gallery.
