Becoming a parent changed Nick Jonas — in more ways than one.

“I think that more and more people are getting in touch with their faith because of how messed up things are in the world,” Jonas, 33, shared on the Tuesday, June 2, episode of the iHeartRadio “Hey Jonas!” podcast. “Becoming a father really shaped things for me and made me want to dig deep and talk about the central theme of [my new] song, which is that there is a plan for your life and you don’t have to be a person that believes in Jesus and God to understand that there’s some plan in place.”

Last month, Jonas teamed up with Christian singer Brandon Lake to release a faith-centered single titled “The Author.” It was a special collaboration for Jonas, who shares 4-year-old daughter Malti with wife Priyanka Chopra Jonas.

“I was really inspired to say, ‘How can I put this feeling that I know my life is in good hands into a song?’” Jonas said. “It’s the beautiful thing about collaboration is that two very different walks of life — different experiences — can come together to do something that has real impact and is based in both biblical truth but also just the main truth, which is love.”

The topic of faith came up when Nick and his brothers, Kevin Jonas and Joe Jonas, were taking calls from podcast listeners.

One listener chose to ask Nick what he thought of Justin Bieber “giving testimony” of his faith during his Coachella Music Festival headlining set in April.

While performing in Indio, California, Bieber, 32, sang faith-centric tracks such as “Glory Voice Memo” and “Everything Hallelujah.” He also openly praised Jesus Christ and offered a healing prayer during his set.

Nick described Bieber’s actions at the festival as “beautiful.”

“We find a way to love each other and meet each other with compassion and empathy. I think Bieber has done a great job of that in his life, both publicly and personally,” Nick shared. “He always meets people with empathy and love, and the fact that he’s taking it on a big stage like that is great and inspiring a lot of people.”

Although Bieber wasn’t the inspiration for Nick’s collaboration with Lake, 35 — the music session took place in December 2025, well before Coachella  — the Jonas Brothers member said the concert “continues this conversation around love, empathy, compassion in a time when I think we need it most.”
