Oh, we are so watching. Nicki Minaj will be producing and starring in an ABC Family sitcom based on her life, the network announced Tuesday, Sept. 29.
The half-hour comedy, based on the rapper’s immigration from Trinidad in the early 1990s with her family, will focus on her upbringing in Queens, N.Y., and her subsequent rise to fame. The still-untitled show’s pilot is slated to shoot in Queens this winter.
“BREAKING NEWS! @NickiMinaj is executive producing & appearing in a new @ABCFamily comedy based on her life!” ABC Family tweeted. The “Truffle Butter” singer, 32, retweeted the network’s announcement a short time later.
Minaj previously took to her Twitter and Instagram to tease that a “surprise” was in store for her fans, using the hashtag #nickisurprise.
"This is one of the more unique adventures I’ve ever embarked on,” Minaj said in a statement about the show on Tuesday. “I couldn’t be more proud and excited to team up with an amazing group of people to give the world something really special.”
Hours after the announcement on Tuesday, the “Super Bass” rapper tweeted, “Who’s going to play #YoungNicki?!?! aaaaaaaaaahhhh!”
This isn’t Minaj’s first time acting. She also starred in the 2014 film The Other Woman alongside Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann, and Kate Upton.
