Nina Dobrev’s Key to Morning Fabulousness: Being Happy!

Waking up early is never easy, but getting out of bed Friday morning was a little easier for us knowing that we'd be starting our day with Nina Dobrev.

Still, the experience was harrowing. When we arrived at the Origins store in the Flatiron District in New York City for the launch of their new GinZing Energy-boosting moisturizer, we realized just how unfair the world can be: The 24-year-old "Vampire Diaries" starlet looked ready to step on the red carpet for a primetime premiere, complete with Jimmy Choo shoes and a chic and trendy midriff-revealing ensemble by Thakoon.

Needless to say, we just had to know how she did that. Unlike Katherine and Elena on her show, she was nice enough to give us a few pointers.

Don't dilly-dally when the alarm goes off. It always helps to "wake up and start your day right away," Dobrev told omg!. "I sleep on my stomach so all the water goes into my face and I get really puffy in the mornings. I have to wake up early and let everything drain and do its thing naturally, then moisturize and let it soak in."

Protect yourself. "Sunscreen's really important. I was just away on a beachy vacation and you have to wear sunscreen. Otherwise it ages you. A lot."

A little kick doesn't hurt. "Early calls are definitely caffeinated. I definitely have to have some coffee, but also matcha green tea is amazing. I've been really into matcha green tea lattes with almond milk and also with regular milk."

Mental health matters too. "Just being happy. Happiness is the best thing [for looking fresh in the morning]."

In addition to wearing sunscreen and caffeine-enhanced moisturizer, Dobrev will be spending her summer hiatus shooting a film — buddy comedy "Let's Be Cops," also featuring "New Girl" star Jake Johnson — and just "resting and doing yoga and reading," she said. "I'm reading 'Reconstructing Amelia' right now. I've been reading scripts for so long, it's just refreshing to be reading a book."
