Perez Hilton’s lawyer is speaking out after the blogger’s mom filed for temporary custody of his three children.

“My main concern and objective, as well as the family’s, is to protect the children and make sure they are safe,” Hilton’s attorney Natalie Guerra-Valdes told Us in a statement on Wednesday, August 12. “We want them to have some sense of normalcy as they begin their journey of healing after the tragic events that occurred last week.”

Hilton, 48, is the father of Mario, 13, Mia, 11, and Mayte, 8.

Us confirmed earlier on Wednesday that Hilton’s mother, Teresita Lavandeira, filed for temporary custody on Friday, August 7. According to documents obtained by Us, Hilton “voluntarily consented” to the request amid his hospitalization.

Earlier this month, Hilton alarmed social media users when he appeared to perform acts of self-harm during a TikTok livestream. Authorities responded to the scene and Hilton was subsequently hospitalized. His family addressed his condition soon after in an update shared via his website.

“Our family wants to once again thank everyone who has reached out with prayers, kind messages, and support for Perez. Your compassionate humanity during this profoundly heartbreaking time has meant more than words can express,” they wrote on August 5. “This has been incredibly difficult and emotional for us, made even harder because very little information has been made available to our family. While we continue to wait for further updates, we remain hopeful.”

One day later, the family revealed that Hilton’s children were home at the time of the incident.

“The events of the past several days have been nearly unbearable for our family,” read a message shared on Thursday, August 6. “Just minutes before the public livestream incident, Perez’s children, niece, and sister were inside the home. When it became clear that Perez was experiencing a severe mental health crisis and harming himself, they immediately fled to protect the children from witnessing any further trauma.”

The family added that the well-being of Hilton’s kids is their top priority amid the blogger’s recovery.

“An important part of [their healing] process is allowing them to safely return home and begin rebuilding a sense of security and normalcy,” the statement continued, asking the media and content creators to “leave the area surrounding the family’s home and not return.”

Hilton has not publicly addressed the incident himself. According to a Saturday, August 8, update, Hilton “experienced significant blood loss and sustained additional injuries,” which required surgery.
