Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s two children have changed schools for security concerns.
According to Hello!, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet spent two days at their original school and even met their classmates before their parents reluctantly decided to withdraw them.
“The decision for the children to move school was taken following a discussion with the family’s security team about the practicalities of their current arrangements,” a spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex told the publication on Monday, September 14. “The parents remain extremely grateful to all the teachers and staff for the love, care and effort they have shown their family. This decision should in no way be interpreted as a reflection on the school or the exceptional care the children have received there.”
Us has reached out to reps for the couple for comment.
Hello! reported that heavy traffic in the area and the distance between the school and where Harry and his family are living was a contributing factor. One incident reportedly made it difficult for their private security teams to stay in convoy, which raised further concerns.
Archie, 7, and Lili, 5, will now join another undisclosed school in the area.
News broke on August 19 that Harry, 41, and Meghan, 45, would be relocating to the U.K. with their children for an extended period starting later that month.
The couple will reportedly keep their home in Montecito, California, and their vacation residence in Portugal while having non-royal property in Britain.
“Harry is not as happy in the U.S. as he is in the U.K.,” a source exclusively shared with Us at the time. “They aim to be somewhere outside of London, not in, like, the city proper. They are open to a new chapter.”
The Sussexes moved to the West Coast after stepping down from their senior royal duties in 2020. Meghan recently shared what appeared to be a brief look into her first few weeks back in the U.K. after relocating across the pond.
In an Instagram video posted on Sunday, September 13, Meghan watched as Lili rode her bike down a lengthy driveway as Archie cheered her on. She captioned the image with a Union Jack and a red heart emoji, signifying her family’s return to the U.K.
Meghan is expected to continue leading her lifestyle brand, As Ever, from their international home. Harry, meanwhile, will be spending more time supporting U.K.-based charities and patronages.
His first public engagement since moving back to the U.K. will be attending the annual WellChild Awards in London on Monday, September 21.
