Forever and ever, amen! Hours after Randy Travis made a surprise post-stroke appearance at the 2015 Academy of Country Music Awards on April 19, his rep confirmed to Us Weekly that he's a married man.
The "Too Gone Too Long" singer, 55 — who's still recovering from a debilitating stroke he had two years ago — quietly wed fiancee Mary Davis last month. The two have been engaged since before his hospitalization in July 2013.
Davis has been a constant presence at Travis' side over the last couple of years, and regularly updates fans on his condition. Back in November 2014, she told ABC affiliate WFAA, "He wakes up with a smile on his face; he goes to bed with a smile on his face. He inspires me daily."
She went on to praise his unwavering optimism, adding that he hoped to return to music. "The music does come easy. He plays every single chord, and he knows all the words," she shared. "I'm exactly where I need to be and want to be, and from Randy's standpoint, he's gonna be back. He loves music too much."
Indeed, in a letter to fans after his appearance at the ACM Awards — where he received a standing ovation and a tribute from Lee Brice — the country legend said he looked forward to getting back on stage. He also expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and support he'd received during his recovery.
"The kind cards and heartfelt letters of testimony and encouragement brought me through the darkest of days," he wrote. "Mary read each and every one of them to me and I felt the love and concern being sent my way; and I gathered strength from this."
