America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders star Reece Weaver is clearing the air on fan speculation that her husband, Will Allman, was less than supportive of her NFL cheerleading career.
“I think a lot of people just had a misconception on things that my husband said, and how people think that he wasn’t supportive, and he was the one that took me away from [the DCC],” Weaver, 24, exclusively told Us before making her Broadway debut in Chicago on Monday, September 7. “That could not be more far from the truth.”
Weaver, who married Allman, 26, in April 2024, joined the DCC after graduating from college. She retired at the end of the 2025 NFL season after three years dancing with the squad, sparking fan speculation that Will might have informed her choice.
“It was 100 percent solely my decision,” she stressed to Us. “I even remember so many times Will was constantly reminding me that this is my decision only, and [saying], ‘I’m going to support you no matter what that is.’ So I think that’s something that a lot of people took [his America’s Sweethearts interviews] and twist, and I was like, ‘That cannot be more far from the truth.’ But that’s also just again a testament to how people can twist things, and social media can put that pressure on you.”
Weaver’s experience on DCC was captured on Netflix’s America’s Sweethearts docuseries, which aired its third season earlier this year.
“What I love about our show is it’s a docuseries, and [the crew] really do keep the integrity of just wanting to be a fly on the wall, just really wanting to peel back layers on not twisting things, not misconstruing things,” she explained. “They just want to show something that really goes on in real life. I think it’s done so well because it’s so transparent, it’s so honest and real, and I think a lot of people can relate to that. I think that’s what we need a little bit more in our world today.”
Since hanging up her blue-and-white pom poms, Weaver scored the leading role as Roxie Hart in Chicago for a limited run at New York City’s Ambassador Theatre.
“Broadway has always been something that’s been on my heart and has been a dream of mine,” Weaver gushed to Us earlier this month. “I started working on the material and went to a workshop, in-person audition and found out that day, actually just several hours after the audition, that I got the role of Roxie. … I was working my tail off right before we made the move out here.”
Allman moved to NYC alongside his wife, tirelessly supporting her Broadway debut.
“Will is, like, my biggest cheerleader and biggest advocate, supporter, encourager, and I could not do this process without him,” Weaver gushed. “I’m just grateful for him to be in my corner and always supporting me and holding my hand throughout it all because it is a lot, but it’s also so fun to do it with your best friend.”
Weaver’s limited engagement in Chicago runs for six weeks through October 18.
