Rob Kardashian Is Taking Diabetes Scare ‘Seriously,’ Says Khloe Kardashian

Straight from the sister. Khloe Kardashian opened up to Good Morning America on Wednesday, January 12, about her brother, Rob Kardashian, and his recent diabetes diagnosis.

“He’s doing good!” Khloe, 31, said of her one and only brother. Rob, 28, was hospitalized late last month and diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.

“Yeah, he had a health scare,” the Strong Looks Better Naked author confirmed during her live interview. “Leaving that in 2015: He got out [of the hospital] before the New Year. I was like, ‘OK. Let’s leave all that stuff then. Listen, you found out what the problem is. Let’s tackle it head-on.'”

As previously reported by Us Weekly, the tight-knit reality TV family was planning to stage an intervention to get Rob back to good health. (Dr. Oz shared his professional advice for Rob in an exclusive interview with Us last week, telling the Arthur George sock designer to work on his sel-esteem.) Khloe said they’re trying to see this scare from a positive, optimistic perspective. “Everything happens for a reason, so that health scare? If that’s gonna shake him up a little bit, and jump start his health journey, then great,” she told GMA. “I’m right here for him.”

For now, Khloe says her brother is focused. “He’s taking it seriously,” the Kocktails With Khloe host said of her sibling. “Yeah, we’re only 13 days into the new year, but that’s good enough for me.”

During the interview, Khloe also shared the latest health update about her estranged husband, Lamar Odom. “He’s doing really well. He’s finally out of the hospital,” she said of Odom’s release, which Us Weekly first reported this week. “He’s doing great, but you know, it’s a long journey . . . 2016 is a good year! My talk show’s coming out. We’re leaving all the hospital stuff [behind].”

Khloe reiterated that the former NBA player’s recovery has been nothing short of a miracle. “It was really scary,” she recalled of when Odom was found unconscious in a Nevada brothel last October. “When we got to the hospital in Vegas, we were told, ‘There’s only a few hours to live. . . ‘ and there was a lot of challenges.”

“But he’s a fighter,” she continued. “It will be a long journey, but as long as he’s willing to fight it and better himself, that’s all I can ask for.”

And consider their relationship platonic — for now. “I do believe that we’re soulmates, but right now that’s not even where my head is at. I’m more from a friend standpoint,” shared Khloe, who’s still in a relationship with NBA superstar James Harden. “I genuinely love him. I genuinely want him to be happy and healthy . . . Things change and life gets in the way and that’s OK, and it’s all about his health and my happiness and his happiness.”
