Cake, cake, cake! Ryan Gosling discussed his plans for his 35th birthday at the AFI Fest premiere, presented by Audi, at the premiere of his new film, The Big Short, on Thursday, Nov. 12.

“I’m just going to go home and have some cake!” the actor told Us Weekly.

Gosling also spilled details on his latest film — adapted from the 2010 book of the same name and also starring Steve Carell, Brad Pitt, and Christian Bale — which tells the true story of a few men who made millions off the housing and credit bubble during the late 2000s.

“It was amazing,” the hunk said of making the film. “One of the reasons why I wanted to do the film was because by the time I finished reading the script, I suddenly had such a deeper understanding of what happened. And it was delivered in a way that’s not heavy handed — it’s very fun.”

He also revealed that while filming in New Orleans, he and Carell, 53 — who also starred together in the 2011 film Crazy, Stupid, Love — hit the town and saw some jazz.

“We did!” Gosling gushed. “But honestly, I really had to be prepared for this role so I didn’t do a lot of hanging out. I just sort of stayed home and crammed.”
