Ryan Reynolds Hilariously Explains Glum Taylor Swift July Fourth Photo

That’s just how his face is! Ryan Reynolds caused a buzz on Twitter this past Fourth of July after a photo of him looking glum during Taylor Swift’s annual bash went viral.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, however, the Deadpool actor clarified that he wasn’t necessarily having a bad time at the party, as the subsequent memes suggested.

“No, that’s a problem I’ve had all my life,” the 40-year-old actor said when asked if he was actually having a grumpy moment when the photo was snapped. “If I’m not aware a photo is being taken, my natural resting face is one of a man dying. I had no idea somebody was taking a photo. Therefore I was resting comfortably in my persona of a man whose soul is visibly exiting this earth.”

The photo in question shows Reynolds’ wife, Blake Lively, snuggling up on the actor’s lap between two other couples — including former It Couple Swift and Tom Hiddleston.

While then-pregnant Lively, 29, smiles widely as she looks off into the distance, and Swift, 26, and Hiddleston, 35, gaze into each other’s eyes, Reynolds looks bored and even a little sad as he stares off into space.

The star-studded bash also included A-list guests like Cara Delevingne, Gigi Hadid, Ruby Rose, Uzo Aduba and Karlie Kloss.

In an interview with GQ for the magazine’s December 2016 cover story, Reynolds joked around when asked about his oft-private relationship with Lively. Asked if there was an exact moment when he knew Lively was the one, Reynolds quipped, “Probably after the sex.”

He later told the real story, about how the pair had dined together at a restaurant in Tribeca and ended up dancing together in the empty space.

“No one was there, so it was just totally empty,” he told the magazine. “And it was just one of those moments where halfway through the dance, it was like, ‘Oh, I think I just crossed a line.’”

The pair tied the knot in September 2012 after a year of dating, and share two daughters.
