Ryan Reynolds is used to a red carpet lifestyle, but that doesn’t mean he wants his daughter James to follow suit! During a pre-taped Today show interview on Wednesday, April 1, the Woman in Gold actor admitted he’s dreading the idea that his and Blake Lively’s baby girl might want to go into show business one day.
“You worry about really stupid stuff,” Reynolds, 38, told Today co-host Willie Geist. “And you sort of sit there and go, ‘Oh gosh, is she gonna wanna do this?’ I like to whisper in her ear, like, really normal everyday jobs.”
Indeed, the hunky star isn’t kidding. He actually has a laundry list of ideas for his 3-month-old to become instead. “‘You’re going to be a flight attendant,'” he tells his daughter. “‘A barista. Just normal wonderful jobs. You can have a nice normal life.'”
As for joining the Dallas Cowboys cheerleading squad? Not so much, he admitted, “although I imagine it’s an exciting job.”
Reynolds and the Gossip Girl alum, 27, welcomed James in late December. “It’s been amazing. I’m pretty sure my baby girl doesn’t understand a thing I say. She doesn’t like anything,” Reynolds told Geist of fatherhood. He quipped: “There is no problem that a breast won’t fix.”
But jokes aside, Reynolds thinks about how lucky he is “all the time,” and says his family will always come first.
“That’s the priority. You never cross over and work at the same time,” he said. “You make sure that we are all together. It involves a little bit of a sacrifice, but that’s a small, small sacrifice for the grand scheme of things.”
