Ryan Seacrest Sings “Right Here Waiting” With Richard Marx on American Idol: See the Video

After 13 seasons, American Idol host Ryan Seacrest has finally broken into song!

In an unexpected move on the show’s May 21 two-hour live finale, the TV and radio star joined crooner Richard Marx for the classic ballad “Right Here Waiting.”

“It took a lot of convincing to get him to sing a song,” his mom admitted before introducing her son to the live audience.

Indeed Seacrest was quaking in his boots as he sang a shaky first line to a worried audience and nervous-looking group of judges.

Then the curtain went up to reveal that Marx himself was there to take over the song. Seacrest, now full of confidence, joined the famed musician and sounded pretty impressive beside the professional.

Seacrest’s first foray into music was greeted by rapturous applause from the audience—which included his mom, dad and sister who were all there to witness his singing debut.

After the show, Jena Irene told Us Weekly she’s a fan! “Ryan has some balls, actually,” she said, laughing. “I thought that was awesome.”

The season finale saw contestants Irene and Caleb Johnson go head-to-head for the American Idol title. Johnson was crowned the winner.
