The ex-wife of Jeremiah “Shawn” Duffey, who is accused of fatally shooting wife Sara Gilson before killing himself, claims that he threatened her with a murder-suicide plot multiple times throughout their marriage.
In an interview with TMZ published on Wednesday, July 29, Stephanie Ramsay — who began dating Duffey when she was 15 and he was 20 and married the influencer two years later — claimed that he repeatedly threatened suicide throughout their relationship and warned that he would “take me out with him.”
Ramsay also told the outlet that she now has sole custody of the five kids she shared with Duffey, who range in age from 15 to 25. Meanwhile, Gilson’s ex-husband, Lyle Landers, has sole custody of their two children, aged 13 and 14. (Landers, 46, previously claimed to People that he “begged” Gilson, 43, to leave Duffey before her death.)
On Saturday, July 25, it was reported that Gilson and Duffey were found dead in their Oklahoma City home after a fatal shooting on July 23. Police later disclosed that 911 dispatchers received a call from “a juvenile caller advising his step-father had shot his mother.”
Two weeks before their deaths, Gilson — a hairstylist who had 38,000 followers on TikTok — claimed via social media that her marriage to Duffey had ended after he was accused of pedophilia. Duffey never publicly addressed the accusations before his death.
Gilson had filed for a protective order against Duffey on June 10, which went into effect on the same day. In her petition, she claimed Duffey had a “firearm on him” and he “went on the run.”
Gilson also referred to “pedo charges” in the docs viewed by Us. Duffey was ordered to stay 100 yards away from her and their home. The order was extended through August 24.
A separate protective order was also filed against Duffey by a mother in Oklahoma who claimed he had inappropriately touched her 15-year-old daughter at basketball practice, Us confirmed.
“[The alleged victim] has also said that he has been giving her money to keep her quiet,” the mother claimed in court docs.
The Owasso Police Department (OPD) confirmed in a statement to Us that an incident occurred one hour before the parent and minor came to Owasso Police Headquarters on June 9.
“Upon further investigation, it was discovered that a basketball coach, later identified as Jeremiah Shawn Duffey, a coach of a traveling, competitive basketball team, had inappropriately touched a juvenile female member of the team he was coaching, inside the school during an event that evening,” police captain Nick Boatman said.
Ramsey claimed in her interview on Wednesday that her and Duffey’s five children are responsible for making decisions about his funeral and burial under Oklahoma law. However, she claimed that the children felt he did not deserve a memorial and would be cremated.
