Saturday Night Live’s Pete Davidson Remembers His Dad, Who Died on 9/11

Humor to ease the pain. Saturday Night Live cast member Pete Davidson paid tribute to his late father, a firefighter who died on 9/11, via a tongue-in-cheek post to Instagram on Sunday, September 11.

“One of my dads homies gave me his old dirty a– boots from work and a sick photo of him lookin like a young legend!!!” the 22-year-old comedian captioned the photo. “Apparently my dad wore sketchers how f–kin embarrassing!!”

In the image, Davidson positioned a pair of beat-up old sneakers in front of a framed photo of his father smiling big as he pours a beer into a tall glass. The image is dated 1993, the same year Davidson was born, and less than 10 years before his father died in the World Trade Center terrorist attacks.

On Saturday, Davidson shared another throwback picture, this time of him as a toddler with his dad, both taking swigs from Heineken bottles.

“Can’t believe tomorrow is going to be 15 years. Missing the legend!!!” the sketch-comedy performer captioned the shot. “Thank u all for ur kind words and support as always #werememberthem.”

Earlier this month, Davidson took part in a Comedy Central roast of Rob Lowe, and endured several cringeworthy jokes about his father as part of the no-holds-barred event.

“Pete, I actually thought you were black, but I guess you just have your dad’s ashy skin,” David Spade quipped.

“Pete, your performance tonight was a fitting tribute to your dad because it was like watching a third plane hit the World Trade Center,” joked Lowe.

“I’m appalled that people would come here and make jokes about the sacrifice Pete’s heroic father made on 9/11,” British comedian Jimmy Carr said. “This is not the roast of Pete Davidson’s father. That was in 2001.”

The SNL star took the ribbing in stride and cracked up at the jokes.
