In a new interview with Andy Cohen on the comedian’s SiriusXM radio show Radio Andy, Seal dished on what it was like to renew his wedding vows every year with his ex-wife, Heidi Klum. The couple married in May 2005 and celebrated their anniversaries with celebrations in Mexico and Florida.
“That was my ex-wife’s idea, to be honest,” the 52-year-old singer said. “It kind of turned into a little bit of a circus, which I wasn’t terribly fond of because, by default, I’m quite a private person.”
When Cohen pointed out how the couple’s vow renewals were heavily publicized, the “Kiss from a Rose” singer said, “That’s the thing I disliked most about it.”
Seal and Klum, 42, finalized their divorce in October 2014, two years after announcing their separation. They share four children together.
“You’re married and you become a team player,” Seal said to Cohen. “You understand that each of you have different lives and you do whatever you can to support your partner’s life.”
He added, “I don’t know how necessary [renewing our vows] was, but it was cool.”
In the November 2015 issue of Redbook, Klum reflected on the divorce, saying, “Obviously things have changed. But they haven’t changed drastically. [Seal] was never your typical dad who left for work in the morning with his briefcase and would be home by dinnertime every night. He traveled a lot. The kids knew it was part of his job. I’m a mom and a dad at the same time.”
