Selena Gomez talks Justin Bieber and shares her 21st birthday plans.
Selena Gomez opens up about Justin Bieber and reveals her 21st birthday plans.

Selena Gomez is growing up in more ways than one. During her E! special with Ryan Seacrest on Sunday, July 21, the "Slow Down" singer shared what she learned from her ill-fated relationship with Justin Bieber and revealed how she plans to celebrate her 21st birthday on Monday, July 22.

"I was 18 when we started to date. I don't know. You just have to be an 18-year-old and go through everything," she said of romancing Bieber on-and-off since 2010. "I learned that I should definitely be way more private next time."

"It's hard to just date in this industry," said Gomez, who added that having a big ego is a turnoff. "You can't really help who you date."

During her time with Bieber, Gomez received several death threats from her boyfriend's fans via Twitter. "I understand it. I was in love with Jesse McCartney. I was 13, and he was my life — everything to me," she admitted. "He was with Katie Cassidy and I was so upset. It's obviously not nice, but I get it."

Gomez denied being back together with Bieber and said she's currently single. "I'm okay with being content right now. I think that's what I'm happy with," the Spring Breakers star said. "Whatever happens, happens."

When asked who her celebrity crushes are, Gomez named actors Bradley Cooper and Logan Lerman. "We've like kind of hung out — not really," the star said of Lerman, 21, best known for his roles in The Perks of Being a Wallflower and Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief.

Though some of her child star peers have gone off the rails, Gomez said she's been able to stay on the right track by surrounding herself with a stable, supportive group of friends. "At the end of the day, success is nothing if you don't have the right people to share it with," she explained. "You're just going to end up lonely."

Gomez admitted that "it's fun" to go to Hollywood parties and "meet people" but added that she doesn't go out often. "I like my home a lot," she said. "Most of the time, I'm by the fire pit with friends."

The "Come & Get It" singer plans to leave the house, however, in order to celebrate reaching the legal drinking age. "I will order a glass of wine," she said. "My mom's a red wine kinda gal" She also plans to leave her parents' house. "I think it's time," she said of moving out.
