A fight for her life. Shannen Doherty broke down when talking about her battle with breast cancer during a new interview, explaining that there have been points since her diagnosis when she was afraid she “wasn’t going to live.”
“It’s hard,” she told Entertainment Tonight on Thursday, July 28. “I started thinking that I wasn’t going to live … I don’t look past today.”
The former Beverly Hills, 90210 star, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in February 2015 and went public in August, revealed that despite the hardships, she’s trying to stay optimistic about beating cancer.
“I want to believe that if I fight, I’m gonna be OK,” she said.
Earlier this month, Doherty, 45, shared a series of images to Instagram of herself shaving her head in preparation for chemotherapy. In the six black-and-white images, the Mallrats actress retains her sense of humor with several tongue-in-cheek shots of herself in various stages of head-shaving.
“I don’t know if I’ll ever look like me again,” she said during her interview with ET, during which she wore a scarf on her head.
Doherty’s friends and family — as well as former costars — have been supportive through her battle with breast cancer.
On Wednesday, July 27, Jason Priestley, who starred with Doherty for four seasons of the hit Fox teen drama, told reporters that the actress is “a fighter.”
“I follow Shannen on social media. I send her lots of love on social media. I have every faith that Shannen will come through this and beat it,” he said. “Shannen has always been a tough kid, a fighter. I know she’s very strong and she’ll beat this. I got nothing but love for Shannen in my heart, and I send her nothing but love and light. I know that Shannen is going to beat this.”
