Shannen Doherty Settles Breast Cancer Insurance Lawsuit Against Ex-Manager

Shannen Doherty has reached a settlement in her lawsuit against her ex-manager, Tanner Mainstain Glynn & Johnson, for failing to properly secure her health insurance, according to court documents obtained by Us Weekly. The amount of money is confidential, but both sides agreed to the figure on Friday, August 19.

The 45-year-old actress first revealed her breast cancer diagnosis in the lawsuit when it was filed in August 2015. Doherty claimed that without health care coverage, her breast cancer spread. Mainstain was supposed to be paying her insurance premium through the Screen Actors Guild, she alleged.

“In November 2013, SAG sent the premium invoice to Tanner Mainstain for Plaintiff’s medical insurance coverage for the year 2014,” the lawsuit stated. “However, Defendants ignored it, failed to pay it (without informing Plaintiff) and then promptly terminated their relationship with [Doherty] effective February 7, 2014.”

The Beverly Hills, 90210 actress reenrolled with SAG’s insurance in 2015, which is when she learned that she had invasive breast cancer. “Plaintiff was also informed that, had she been insured and able to visit her doctor, the cancer could potentially have been stopped, thus obviating the need for the future treatment (including mastectomy and chemotherapy) that Plaintiff will likely have to suffer through now,” the documents claimed.

The Charmed star recently revealed that the cancer has spread to her lymph nodes, and she has started chemotherapy. After going through eight rounds of the treatment, she will begin radiation. She previously underwent a single mastectomy back in May.

Doherty has been posting about her emotional cancer battle on social media. Last month, she revealed her newly shaved head on Instagram after documenting the process of cutting her hair a few days earlier. She also opened up to Entertainment Tonight about how amazing her husband, Kurt Iswarienko, has been through the tough time. “I could not have gotten through this without my husband. … My marriage was always strong, but it’s made my marriage a thousand times stronger,” she said. “He’s never missed a chemo. He’s never missed a sick day.”
