Heartbreaking loss. Last week, Shayne Lamas was rushed to the hospital due to a pregnancy complication and suffered a miscarriage at 20 weeks into her second pregnancy. Husband Nik Richie told TMZ that the child they loss was a baby boy, and he decided to name their son after his death.
Richie shared the emotional story to TMZ of how he held his baby boy a few days after his death, and gave him the name Rex Jagger Lamas-Richie. He chose Rex because he always wanted a son with that name, and Jagger after musician Mick Jagger.
The grieving father also shared a touching letter he wrote to his late son "R.J.," and shared it with TMZ. "God has a plan for us all. He gave me an amazing son who will always watch over our family," Richie wrote. "You saved your mother's life with your passing and I will never forget how much this means to me, R.J. In family, we sacrifice for each other. You gave your life for us. You showed me how to love."
"I need you to know that I held you, spoke to you, kissed you and that you'll be remembered," he continued. "You are perfect. You will always be my son. I'm proud of you, always. I love you, Rex Jagger Lamas-Richie."
Lamas, 28, was taken to the hospital on Feb. 9 after collapsing in her Orange County home. During an emergency surgery, the Bachelor alum lost her unborn child. On Monday, Feb. 17, Richie revealed in a blog post on TabRag that his wife is still recovering in intensive care.
"I'm still working from the ICU. This has been the toughest week of my life, but my love for Shayne Lamas has grown tremendously. My wife is a true fighter. Her heart gave out on Valentine's Day and we had to start the rehabilitation process all over again," he wrote. "Thank you to Dr. Marquez for saving Shayne's life (again). Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers — they are working! Thank you to Dakota Pike, Lorenzo Lamas, Shawna Craig, Michele Smith, and my family for giving me the strength to get through this. Lastly, a special thank you to Shayne Lamas for not giving up. Press wants her mom back!"
Lamas and Richie, who wed in April 2010, are already parents to 2-year-old daughter Press Dahl Lamas-Richie.
