Simone Biles proved there’s really not much she can’t do after starring in Jake Miller’s new music video for his single “Overnight” and taking a stand against some mean online trolls.
The gold medalist, who was a part of the Final Five U.S. gymnastics team at the Olympics in Rio this past summer, appears as Miller’s love interest in the video. Most of her fans seriously loved seeing her in a new light, but not everyone was supportive.
In the video, Biles shows off a little bit of her athletic ability by dancing with Miller. The pair’s chemistry is palpable.
However, with her success came some truly hateful comments about her appearance and actions in the video. Some commenters hated on her profession as a gymnast, stating that simply being a gymnast was the reason why she got to be in Miller’s video. Others commented on her age and sensual behavior. Many brought up the color of Biles’ skin.
When bullies started leaving racist slurs and negative comments on the music video, the gymnast, 19, took to Twitter to express her thoughts on the topic.
“everyone forgets that I have feelings also,” she wrote in a tweet October 20.
Biles’ devoted fans were quick to have her back, and offered her sweet words of encouragement. “You’re the best and forget the trolls out there who are negative. Keep going – you are amazing and inspiring!” one fan tweeted to her on October 21. Many of her supporters offered to fight the bullies for her, and even more shared how they were inspired by the music video.
