Joe Manganiello is getting in good with the other man in fiancee Sofia Vergara's life: Her son, Manolo Gonzalez. To celebrate Gonzalez's May 18 graduation from Emerson College, the Modern Family actress, 42, and Magic Mike XXL's Manganiello, 38, traded Hollywood for Boston and cheered on their grad with other families Monday morning.
"Bravo! So happy," Vergara enthused after the ceremony when posting Instagram highlights.
After tossing his cap in the air with fellow Bachelor of Arts grads, Gonzalez, his mom, and future stepdad headed to lunch at Boston's Italian eatery Serafina. "Sofia's so proud of him and excited. Joe is also very supportive and close with Manolo," a source told Us.
Later that night, the celebrations continued at the Empire restaurant, where Gonzalez and two of his fellow graduates were feted by Vergara and their families. Noshing on appetizers like chicken teriyaki, guests of the Emerson grads also enjoyed a custom-made Oakleaf Cakes Bake Shop confection from the Modern Family star that featured molded likenesses of each student in a cap and gown.
As her son gets older, Vergara becomes less concerned with rumors that once plagued the mother and son — rumors that they dated! "Ten years ago, yeah, they would confuse us a lot," Vergara told Howard Stern during an interview earlier this month.
"We would walk in New York, and you know the guys that have the tables on the street that sell earrings, they would scream at him, 'Come and get something for your girlfriend,’” the actress recalled. “When I brought him to college four years ago he had a roommate, and so we were meeting [him] for the first time, his family… so I invited them for lunch. And so we were walking, and the father of the kid said, 'Oh, it's so nice for you to come and do this for your brother.' And I said, 'Yes, you're right.' And I knew my son was listening to me. I always [play into it] just to bother my son."
