She was the new kid … behind bars. Upon checking into federal prison in January 2015, Real Housewives of New Jersey star Teresa Giudice had to navigate the complex circles of inmates, but she luckily found herself surrounded by a support group.
Giudice, 43, made friends inside the Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury, Connecticut, where she spent 11 months behind bars for multiple counts of fraud. While she was away from her husband, Joe, and their four daughters, Gia, 15, Gabriella, 11, Milania, 10, and Audriana, 6, the Skinny Italian author passed time by building relationships and documenting her daily life for her prison memoir, Turning The Tables: From Housewife to Inmate and Back Again.
New photos of Giudice from her stint behind bars show the star faring well with her peers. In one of the pics, Tre poses front and center with several of her fellow inmates outside in a lush green environment. All of the women are dressed in the same military green slacks and matching button-down top.
In another snap, the Bravo personality poses like she’s part of a ’90s girl group. Tre sits in a backwards chair, while her fellow inmates surround her.
“I met some amazing women there,” Giudice told Us Weekly during a visit to the NYC headquarters. “That’s what the girls do there, they help each other, it’s survival mode to get through the time.”
According to Tre, the friendship was real. (Unlike the many broken relationships she has endured as a veteran Jersey Housewife.) “I think about them all the time,” she told Us of her friends from Danbury. “And I can’t wait for them to be reunited with their family.”
On her 43rd birthday in May 2015, the reality star was surprised by her fellow inmates with a festive dinner. In her memoir, Giudice wrote that the ladies cooked up a meal of linguini, chicken and cookies. Her friends also finagled some gifts from the commissary.
Giudice’s prison memoir is now on bookshelves nationwide.
