Locked up. The Real Housewives of New Jersey's Teresa Giudice reported to prison on Monday, Jan. 5.
The reality star, 42, kept a low profile by arriving at the Federal Correctional Institution, Danbury in Connecticut in the middle of the night, Us Weekly can confirm. Giudice got to the prison a little before 3 a.m., making her early for her reporting time. Find out more about the Danbury women’s prison here.
"She was ready," Giudice's attorney James J. Leonard said in a statement to local media. "Teresa is a very strong woman, she won't have any problems in there."
The mother of four begins her 15-month sentence while her also-convicted husband Joe Giudice takes care of the couple's four daughters Gia, Gabriella, Milania, and Audriana. Joe, 42, will then serve his own 41-month sentence after Teresa has completed her time.
Lawyer Leonard told ABC News that Teresa prepared herself for her time in prison by communicating with former Federal Correctional Institution, Danbury inmates. "They told her to keep her head up, that she would make it through," he told the news organization, adding that she was advised to be "friendly but guarded" during her time behind bars.
Teresa and Joe Giudice both pleaded guilty to fraud this past March, eight months after charges were first brought against them. The couple's oldest daughter Gia, 13, acknowledged the family's tough time on Twitter on Sunday evening.
"Support system is unreal," she tweeted. "#soblessed." Gia went on to retweet a message from rapper Tyga, reading, "Hard times will always reveal true friends."
