He can’t run away from this. Michael Vitar, the former child actor best known for his role as Benny “the Jet” Rodriguez in the 1993 classic The Sandlot, has been charged with assault, the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office confirms to Us Weekly in a press release.
Now a firefighter, Vitar, 37, has been charged in an alleged attack on Halloween night along with another firefighter and a neighbor. Vitar was off duty at the time of the incident. After attending the Halloween party of a fellow firefighter, Vitar allegedly “became upset when a 22-year-old man visiting his grandmother in the area was handing out candy to kids as he walked down the street,” according to the district attorney’s press release.
Vitar and his two friends then reportedly chased the man down the street and jumped him, forcing him to the ground.
If convicted, Vitar could face up to four years in state prison.
