Super Bowl champion Tyler Sash's cause of death is still pending as more tests are needed to pinpoint how the NFL player died at age 27, the Iowa state medical examiner's office said on Wednesday, Sept. 9.

The NFL player, who won Super Bowl XLV in 2011 with the New York Giants, was found dead at home in his native town of Oskaloosa, Iowa, on Tuesday, Sept. 8.

"On Wednesday, September 9, 2015, the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner performed an autopsy on Tyler Sash, age 27, of Oskaloosa, Iowa," the statement read (via the Des Moines Register). "The autopsy revealed no acute trauma. The cause and manner of death are pending further investigation and additional laboratory testing."

Sash played with the Giants for two seasons, and was released by the team in 2013. He was a free agent at the time of his death. "We were all deeply saddened today to hear of the passing of Tyler," the Giants said in a statement on Tuesday. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to Tyler's family and friends and all the Hawkeyes he was so proud to represent."

His former Giants teammates and fellow NFL players also took to Twitter to mourn Sash's death. "Rest in Paradise to my Super Bowl champion brother," fellow SB winner Victor Cruz wrote on his Instagram. "You left us too soon and you will be truly missed! I really can't believe you're gone man. Once a Giant…"

Former Giant Terrell Thomas shared several poignant tweets, alluding to Sash's personal struggle. "RIP @TSash I miss you and Love you bro. I hate it had to be this way…" the cornerback wrote. "To my all dudes in the transition from the @NFL reach out to your former teammates…A text or call can make a difference."
