Tyson Beckford's nephew, Domonic Whilby, has reportedly been charged with vehicular manslaughter after being involved in a fatal car crash in New York City on Wednesday, Feb. 12. Police told the New York Daily News that Whilby, 22, stole a truck and crashed into a city bus in Greenwich Village, killing the bus driver.
William Pena, a 17-year transit worker, died after being thrown from the bus, which collided into scaffolding and a building. Five other people, including Whilby, were injured in the accident, the Associated Press reported.
According to the Daily News, Instagram photos showed Whilby partying with his uncle at a birthday party for supermodel Shanina Shaik hours before the accident. After reportedly struggling to get home after the party, Whilby allegedly stole a truck from a garage.
Police told CBS News that the truck crashed into the bus around 5:30 a.m. Whilby, a Griffin, Ga., resident, was arrested and charged with vehicular manslaughter, grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property and felony assault.
A rep for Beckford, 43, did not return a call for comment to the Daily News, but a relative confirmed the relationship between Beckford and Whilby.
