This child star is all grown up!
Anna Chlumsky was just 11-years-old when she played the lead female role as Vada Sultenfuss in the 1991 movie My Girl, where she starred opposite Macaulay Culkin.
But in NYC on Tuesday night, the actress, 31, hit the Veep red carpet in a sexy black hip-hugging column gown with a plunging back and a sweetheart neckline. In addition to dazzling in her evening wear, she wore her hair in glam, side-swept over-the-shoulder waves.
Veep is a new HBO comedy where Chlumsky will star alongside stars including Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Tony Hale. It is said that the new series is based off of British sitcom The Thick of It.
But since making her debut on the big screen as Vada — and nabbing an MTV Movie Award for Best Kiss — in the early 90’s, the Chicago native has kept things pretty quiet on the showbiz front. In fact, she attributes her revamped career to a psychic that came across her path one day while she was working at HarperCollins as a science fiction and fantasy editor.
“When I graduated from college I thought I was over with show business and was pursuing other things,” the University of Chicago graduate told Slate last year. “There were a lot of signs leading up to my getting back into [the] business. I was crying on my lunch break, and a psychic was handing out her pamphlets, and she said, ‘Excuse me I have a question.’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, yeah, get away from me.’ But she followed me and poked me on the shoulder and said, ‘Are you the girl from My Girl?'”
“I said, ‘Yes,’ to the psychic, and she was like, ‘You still want to act,’ and I was like, ‘Oh God!’ I fell hook, line and sinker. I paid her like, $40 for 10 minutes of palm reading.”
