Why Gwen Stefani Went Pale When Blake Shelton Said He Was Divorcing Miranda Lambert

Gwen Stefani turned white as a ghost when Blake Shelton announced that he was splitting from Miranda Lambert. That's because she was secretly going through a divorce herself. The No Doubt frontwoman revealed how Shelton told the Voice team about his broken marriage when she stopped by SiriusXM's The Howard Stern Show on Wednesday, July 20. "From the outside he [looked] so happy and all those things, and when I came back to the show I had this huge weight on me and nobody knew. Nobody but my parents and everybody involved. Then we all sat down right before we were going to go out and do the blind [auditions], with the producers, right before we were gonna go out on the couches. We were all mic-ed up and everything, and Blake’s like, ‘I gotta talk to you guys.' And he basically made his announcement," Stefani, 46, recalled to Stern, 62. "I think I might have went white and like shook. I was in shock, because it felt like he was exposing me."

As previously reported, Shelton, 40, and Lambert, 32, finalized their divorce after four years of marriage in July 2015. That August, Stefani and Gavin Rossdale, parents of sons Kingston, 10, Zuma, 7, and Apollo, 2, announced that they were calling it quits after 13 years of marriage.

Shelton's bombshell initially threw Stefani for a loop, but his openness eventually helped her deal with her own marital problems. After their respective splits, she and the country singer began emailing and supported each other through the difficult time.

"He basically told me what was going on with him. We just started this friendship. I wasn’t trying to start a relationship. I was just trying to not die. There was no plan," she continued on Wednesday. "It was an incredible gift to be able to have a friend."

Their friendship, of course, ultimately blossomed into romance. Stefani's rep exclusively confirmed to Us Weekly last November that they were dating.

"It was the most unlikely situation to happen," Stefani explained. "In the show I’m in hair and makeup for 400 hours and we all have trailers. And no one goes into anyone’s room or trailer, and I had a brand-new baby. So we would talk when we would get in front of the cameras."

Stefani and Shelton have since gotten serious. As Us Weekly exclusively revealed in April, Shelton wants to propose. When Stern asked Stefani about possible wedding bells, she quipped: "Oh my God! Literally, not answering that!"
