Love it or hate it — either way, Apple will ask you every day to install it. The iOS 10 is now available as of Tuesday, September 13, to download for iPhone 5 and later models, iPad Air, iPad Pro, iPad fourth generation, iPad Mini and the iPod Touch sixth generation.
The latest operating system is packed with new features. The Messages app, for one, got a major upgrade with totally new ways to text. Emojis are bigger and better with the option to resize them and 100 new emoji choices. Plus, there are animated stickers, full-screen background effects and the ability to send “handwritten” messages. Another option: invisible ink that the recipient can only read once they swipe over it.
The Photos app also got a revamp. More advanced edits to photos can now be made, with the ability to add text or draw on the pics. On a related note, Places puts all your photos on a map by location. Launching the camera is even faster too — just swipe left anywhere on the main screen to snap a pic!
The Raise to Wake feature is another big change that comes with the new update. Pick up your phone, and it will light up and show notifications without clicking any buttons.
Apple Maps saw major improvements in iOS 10 too. It’s now Open Table, Yelp and Uber all in one. Find nearby restaurants (even sort by cuisine!), make a dinner reservation and order a ride within the app.
Some other notable features include transcriptions of voice mails, Siri’s integration into third-party apps, the option to turn read receipts on or off for individual text conversations, and the ability to delete that stocks app you’ve never used!
