Cover girl! Zoe Saldana is on the cover of the August issue of Marie Claire, which was unveiled on Monday, July 14. Inside the summer publication, the Avatar star, 36, dished on her exes and gushed about her husband Marco Perego.
“I have been in relationships where a man has disrespected me, and I don’t need to be friends with that man anymore,” Saldana said in the cover interview. “I don’t want to be the one going, ‘I’m cool, because I’m friends with all my exes.’ There’s a reason why you’re called an ex. I crossed you off my list. Moving on. You cross a line, you need to know that you’re going to walk this earth knowing that there’s an individual who has no respect for you.”
While she didn’t name names, before marrying Perego in June 2013, the Rosemary’s Baby star was previously engaged to actor and businessman Keith Britton, and once dated Bradley Cooper. She was with Britton for 11 years before ending her engagement to him in November 2011. Following the split, she was in an on-again, off-again relationship with Cooper from late 2011 through early 2013.
Looking gorgeous on Marie Claire in an all-denim outfit, Saldana went on to explain what is different about her relationship with her Italian artist hubby.
“I don’t do the ABCs,” she said. “I do what my heart says, what my heart feels. So from the moment I met my husband, we were together. We knew.”
While she hasn’t remained friends with her exes, Saldana says she has learned from them. She told Marie Claire her past relationships taught her “not to settle.”
“If you’re not happy with a person, leave,” she added. “And wait until you find that one person who makes you feel good about yourself every single day and is not expecting you to change, but to grow.”
