Dad duties aren’t the only thing on Prince Harry’s schedule! The Duke of Sussex paid a visit to the Oxford Children’s Hospital on Tuesday, May 14, sans son Archie and wife Duchess Meghan — however, he couldn’t help but gush over his little family.
During his trip, the former military pilot, 34, sparked up conversation with a 3-year-old named Emmett, who is currently in remission following his testicular cancer diagnosis, and also engaged in banter with the tot’s mother, Ida Scullard, who also has a 10-week-old daughter.
“Harry asked me if she was over the stormy period as babies are supposed be grumpy for the first 10 weeks – and she is,” Ida told Hello! about their talk. “He said he’s getting used to the baby and how Archie has fitted into family life. He said he just feels part of the family and he can’t imagine life without his son.”
He also spoke to a mother named Amy, who shared that fatherhood for Harry is still surreal. “[He said] he’s still getting used to the idea that he’s a parent himself,” she explained, according to royal contributor Omid Scobie.
While the royal toured the hospital and met with parents whose children have been battling cancer, he was gifted a sweet teddy bear for his newborn. Harry later visited with teens and was reunited with Mikayla, 13, who he had previously met at the WellChild Awards in 2016.
Following his visit to the hospital, Harry took off to a second engagement on Tuesday, which saw him arrive at sports and leisure center OXSRAD.
Harry and the former Suits star, 37, welcomed their first child on May 6 and shared the happy news via their Instagram page. Their new bundle of joy — who will be on hand to help them celebrate their first wedding anniversary on Sunday, May 19 — was introduced to the world on Wednesday, May 8, ahead of his name announcement.
“Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor,” the couple revealed alongside a family picture on Instagram. “This afternoon Their Royal Highnesses introduced Her Majesty The Queen to her eighth great-grandchild at Windsor Castle. The Duke of Edinburgh and the duchess’ mother were also present for this special occasion.”
