Pastor and former American Idol contestant Caleb Flynn’s AI-generated love songs for his mistress, Alleigha Botner, were played in court as he stands trial for the murder of his wife, Ashley Flynn.
“We found audio files on Caleb’s iPhone that seemed to have been AI-generated and related to his relationship with Alleigha Botner,” Ohio Bureau of Crime Investigation (BCI) testified on Thursday, September 24, per court footage.
The special agent also testified that various social media apps and an app that creates AI-generated songs were removed from Caleb’s phone days before he allegedly shot his wife twice in the head while she slept on February 16, local news outlet and NBC affiliate WLWT5 reported.
Two songs were then played for the jury and those in court. Members of Ashley’s family, including her mother, father and sister, could be seen reacting to the lyrics — some cringed, some smiled and others shook their heads in disgust.
“That first time I saw you, the room disappeared,” the lyrics read in part. “Love at first sight, even though I was scared. Now the third of every month hits me like rain. An anniversary carved into pain. Candles burn out, I still can’t move on. Life lost its meaning the moment you were gone.”
Botner — who also took the stand in the case, reading several of the more than 100,000 messages the pair sent back and forth during their affair before revealing she believes Caleb murdered his wife — shared what the lyrics meant to her.
“The song was written to show how much he cared about me,” she testified in court, per video footage. “Right now they mean nothing.”
She went on to note what certain lyrics were referencing, saying, “We would meet a lot for early mornings when he was supposed to be at the gym. He would come to my house late at night.”
Ashley was found dead at her home on February 16 after Caleb called 911, claiming an intruder had broken into the house and shot his wife. He is accused of staging the crime scene in order to prove the alleged break-in occurred.
The couple, who had previously celebrated their 15th anniversary before Ashley’s death, shared two daughters, who are 10 and 12. The girls were both home, sleeping in the next room, when Caleb allegedly killed Ashley, according to prosecutors.
During her dramatic testimony, Caleb’s mistress read texts between the pair in which they both — on several occasions — expressed their desire to kill Ashley or hire someone else to kill her so Caleb could be “rid” of her and they could get married.
“Do you know how badly I want to say, ‘F it,’ to any rules and any barriers and just love you with my entire heart for the rest of my life,” Botner said while reading one of the texts she sent to Caleb in July 2025, per CNN.
Before she continued to read from the text thread, she started crying and said, “I just wish I didn’t say this,” adding, “I didn’t mean it.”
Then she read another text she sent to Caleb, which read, “I want to kill her, Caleb.” Botner read Caleb’s alleged response: “That makes two of us.”
Caleb is charged with one count of aggravated murder, three counts of murder, two counts of felonious assault, three counts of tampering with evidence and two counts of intimidation of an attorney, victim or witness in a criminal case. He has pleaded not guilty.
Following Caleb’s arrest earlier this year, his attorney, L. Patrick Mulligan, told Us that he and his client were “both disappointed and concerned about the short timeline and seeming rush to judgment in this case.”
