Two people were found dead at their new home in Texas, and authorities confirmed that their deaths are now being investigated as a possible domestic violence-related murder-suicide.
Bexar County Sheriff’s Office’s Javier Salazar said that deputies were called to a home around 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 13, after a witness returned to the residence and found both victims dead, according to KSAT. Reports state that it was a woman in her 40s and a man in his late 30s.
Salazar explained that officials learned the victims started living together at the newly built home about 10 days before the tragedy, and they are believed to have been married or in a domestic partnership.
The witness, who is a non-relative who also lived at the home with the couple, told investigators that the couple had been arguing on the morning of the incident. They left the home before 6 a.m. and returned later on Sunday night, which was when they found both of the victims dead.
A long rifle is believed to be the weapon used in the crime, according to the sheriff.
Authorities have not yet shared the names of the victims or if there was a believed motive in the killings. It’s not currently clear how long the couple was romantically together and if they had a history of domestic violence prior to the killings.
The investigation into the case remains ongoing.
The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office had no additional information to share when contacted by Us about updates in the case.
The suspected murder-suicide marks the 18th homicide investigated by the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office’s since the beginning of 2026, according to Salazar. He said the number has surpassed the agency’s full-year total of homicides that they investigated in 2025.
Salazar said that eight of this year’s 18 homicides were classified as domestic violence-related. Meanwhile, the latest case is suspected to be the fourth murder-suicide pending the medical examiner’s results.
Salazar went on to urge anyone who is experiencing domestic violence to seek help and contact authorities.
“Domestic violence is something that doesn’t go away,” Salazar said. “It doesn’t stop happening all of a sudden.”
