Brady Harmon reacted to his ex-wife, Sarah Myers, and her mother, Amy Steadman, killing their four children in an apparent murder-suicide, stating that the killers deserve to be in a “special place in hell.”
After Mechanicville police chief William Rabbitt said during a press conference on Tuesday, August 4, that Myers, 44, and Steadman, 64, “conspired in carrying out the murders of the four children [on June 10] before taking their own lives,” Harmon told News10 that he “knew my kids were murdered” before their causes of death were confirmed.
“And then I know those two are the ones that did it,” he added of Myers and Steadman.
Police confirmed that three of Harmon’s children — Harper, 13, Hudson, 11, and Gracelynn, 10 – were poisoned, while Gavin, 10, was stabbed while he tried to defend himself against his mother and grandmother.
“My kids suffered,” Harmon said while speaking to WRGB. “To poison them and also to stab them – there’s a special place in hell for people like that.”
Harmon lived in Utah at the time of the killings, while Myers was raising their kids in Mechanicville, New York. He had not seen his children since November 2019 and explained that he and Myers were involved in a messy custody dispute after their split.
However, the children were expected to spend the summer with him in Utah before they were killed.
Also on August 4, investigators revealed that Steadman wrote a letter in which she “accepts responsibility for what occurred and states that they believed killing the children was the only way to keep them safe from alleged abuse in Utah.”
Authorities also found letters they believe were written by Myers, in which she claimed her children had been abused by Harmon. Harmon has denied all abuse allegations made against him.
“Although those writings were unsigned, the author repeatedly referred to ‘my babies,’ expressed anger toward the Utah family court system, made allegations that she and the children had been abused while living in Utah and complained that she had been unable to obtain legal representation,” Rabbitt said of the letters believed to be from Myers.
He added, “Whatever [Myers and Steadman] believed justified their actions, the deliberate murder of four children cannot be described as protection.”
Harmon claimed Steadman didn’t want him to see his children, and he also shared that he spoke with Myers on the day of the murder. Myers reportedly told him that the children were sick and that he should call the next day to talk to them.
Myers, Steadman and the kids’ bodies were discovered on June 23 when authorities reported to the home for a welfare check.
