An elderly woman in Florida landed behind bars after she allegedly threatened to kill her husband with a knife during an argument “over the water hose breaking” inside a shed on their property.
Cynthia Correll was arrested on the night of Saturday, September 26, after police responded to the couple’s home following reports of a domestic dispute, according to her arrest report viewed by Law & Crime.
A witness called 911 after they heard Correll, 74, and her husband arguing. The witness said the couple then went into a shed, and Correll said that “she was going to kill him (the victim) multiple times.”
Once police reported to the scene, Correll’s husband spoke to officers about his version of the events.
“The victim and defendant were arguing over the water hose not working and she was yelling at him,” police said in the arrest report. “The victim went into the shed they live in together and laid on the bed. The defendant came up to him with a knife, pushed it against his left shoulder/chest area, and threatened to kill him with the knife if he did not get out.”
As the husband got up to leave, Correll allegedly “hit” him in his chest multiple times. The victim then went into a house on the property and told the witness what had happened.
When the officers got to the property, Correll allegedly had a two-hour standoff with them before she was arrested. Police spoke to her through a loudspeaker and ordered her to come out of the shed, but she refused.
Correll eventually spoke to police and allegedly admitted that she had been arguing with her husband. However, she said she “did not hurt him this time.”
Police said that Correll used a knife to cut her own wrist during the standoff. She was transported to a hospital for medical clearance after her arrest, and she was later booked into jail.
Correll allegedly told police that she wanted her husband to leave the shed because she feared she might have hurt him. However, police said she denied hitting her husband, possessing a knife and threatening to kill him.
After they spoke to Correll, investigators found a bloody knife in the shed that she had used to cut her wrist.
Correll has since been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, domestic battery and resisting an officer without violence.
It is not currently clear whether she has entered a plea or retained legal counsel following her arrest. The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office had no additional updates to share when contacted by Us about the case.
