Lindsay Clancy’s ex-husband, Patrick Clancy, got emotional while describing their three children during his ex-wife’s murder trial after she killed them in January 2023.
Lindsay, 35, was arrested on January 26, 2023, and charged with the murders of their children Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months. Three years later, Patrick, 38, took the stand on Monday, July 27, to share insight into who their three kids were, which was streamed live by Court TV.
Patrick was grave and reserved as Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Sprague shared photographs of the children, including one photo of Cora smiling as she wore a large red bow in her hair.
“She liked princesses,” Patrick said about Cora as he held back tears. “She had a lot of friends. She just liked taking care of people.”
Patrick added that Dawson liked firefighters, trucks and Paw Patrol, and that Callan “was just a happy baby.”
He concluded his time on the stand by describing his last moments with the children, recalling that he left their home to pick up dinner and medicine for Cora.
Patrick shared that he rocked Callan on his knees and kissed Cora on the head, while Dawson was eating chicken nuggets as he left.
“I’ll be right back,” he recalled telling his kids.
Patrick was also asked what Lindsay’s demeanor was at the time he left, and he said that she appeared to be acting “normal.”
He is scheduled to return to the witness stand on Wednesday, July 29, at Plymouth Superior Court.
The killings took place on January 24, 2023, when Lindsay asked Patrick to go pick up dinner for the family. He returned home 25 minutes later and discovered that she had jumped out the window from the second story of their home.
Patrick was calling 911 when he discovered that all three of their children had been strangled to death. Cora and Dawson were pronounced dead shortly after they were rushed to the hospital, while Callan died a few days later.
Lindsay’s attorney, Kevin Reddington, said before the trial that the defense believes she was experiencing postpartum psychosis at the time of the incident. He said that she had been prescribed 15 medications in the months leading up to the tragedy amid her struggles with postpartum depression.
However, prosecutors argued that she carefully planned and plotted the killings when she intentionally asked Patrick to leave the home and pick up food.
Lindsay has not disputed the claims that she killed her children, but instead said it was the result of postpartum psychosis. Her attorney insisted that she is not guilty by reason of insanity.
